Hatching 2
Asvalendi awoke after a small nap in the early afternoon. She yawned and looked at the small mound where her eggs were laying. She had switched with Leniki a few days ago. Her eggs would hatch within days and she needed to be there. Marysia could miss her for a week.
A sudden movement alerted Asvalendi. She shook herself out of that sleepy good feeling that always lingers after you have slept longer than you usually did because you could. She called out for her knight, both out loud and in her head.
"Marysia!!! Come here quick!"
Marysia, outside finishing up her hour of training with one of the pairs from the previous clutch, heard the cry and turned. She waved at ??? in the air and dashed to the Deep Cavern as fast as she could. As soon as she had looked inside and found out what it was all about she stepped back out and started giving orders.
Slowly aspirants gathered outside while food was placed on tables for the new pairs. The spirits were high and everywhere people where talking and laughing. But not everyone was too happy. Marysia was aware of a big problem. There were only 3 aspirants for 5 eggs. Asvalendi was a very positive drak, but Marysia didn't know if she would go through the paring calm.
Suddenly the doors of the deep cavern opened and Asvalendi walked out. One after one the five draklings followed her out. There were 2 forests, an ore, a plant and an earth. Asvalendi placed her draklings in front of her to let them take their first steps into the spotlights.
One of the forests moved first. The small female went to the center of the pairing room half running, half stepping. She went in one straight line to the person she felt should be hers. When she was close enough, she sat down in front of her chosen, lifted one paw as an invitation and said: "Mary! I've wanted to tsee you for so long! But mother had to teach me my name firsst." She winked, "Wanna guesssss?"
Mary was baffled for a moment by the drak who seemed to know who she was. Then a very feeble light touched her mind and she knew. She winked back at the forest and said: "Would it be Issnidi?"
"It would." Issnidi said and smiled
Next to head out were the plant and the earth male. They squabbled a bit over the two remaining aspirants but then chose who they wanted.
The earth headed to Eric and put his paws on his shoulders. He looked in his eyes and said: "I want you. I'm Mardini."
"I think I'd like us to work together too." Eric smiled and headed for the food.
The plant strolled toward Lloyd and stopped in front of him.
"You know, you could say hi or something."
"I think we should be introduced first." Lloyd said.
"I'll just call you Pinky." The plant said., "You can call me Houdini."
Marysia couldn't help but smile at the remark of the drak. The hair colour of the aspirant had made him quite noticed around the castle. Her smile soon froze though when she looked at Marysia and the last two draklings. The two turned to their mother and softly stroked their tails around her.
"Don't worry mother." The ore said.
"We can take care of each other." The forest said, turning to her brother.
"So be it." Asvalendi said, giving a quick reassuring pat to her son and daughter. I shall train you my children, then at least I will be sure that you can manage yourselves."
The day drak then turned to her knight and stated: "Franidi and Yuldini will stay with me until I have found them a suitable place."
