Lantessama Isle - General Information

Lantessama Isle rises from the ocean and forms 3 distinct mountain peaks. It's a good-sized island with beaches, dunes, plains, forest and mountain habitats. The adoption agency is situated at the base of the mountains and the mountains themselves offer a home to the bonded. Though some may prefer to make a home on the beach or in the forest. As Lantessaman dragons aren't very big, the biggest only able to comfortable carry 2 people, housing doesn't need to be overly spacious. The climate is temperate, offering a good home to a wide range of beings.

Center Valley and Sands (Middle Mountain)
The 3 peaks of the Lantessaman mountains stand to the north of the island. Flying in from the sound, you fly over sandy beach, then grasslands until you reach a largish lake in the center that's situated right in between the 3 mountains. Roads circumvent the lake, and in front of the middle mountain is an area of soft sands, sheltered b a rocky overcrop and secluded by mountain walls on 3 sides. This is where the Lantessaman dragons lay their eggs.
The middle mountain also houses the Festival sands, to reach them you need to take the path in between the middle and western mountain and take the path leading down inside. The walk down is rather difficult as the path can be narrow.

Nekrat Bay
The east shore of the Isle has a large bay that looks like some giant sea serpent took a bite out of the land. The water levels rise here, making the waters warmer and safer, ideal for raising young nekrat kittens.

Eritan Village
Eritan village and the surrounding meadows were the site of the Bunny Run. The village lies in between the mountains and the bay and is surrounded by forest and meadows. It is inhabited by the people that joined the dragonriders as they set off for the new world. It is home to farmers, crafters, merchants and any other imagineable profession.
The people of Eritan Village are constantly on the lookout. But that doesn't spoil their fun. The big center square is ideal for nighttime events. The houses are grouped around it in squares with every now and then a small park or field. Outside the village meadows and fields for growing crops spread southward, around and past the lake. Where human cultivation ends, forests surround the little settlement.

The Greenhouse and Gardens
Taking a walk along the path between the middle and eastern mountain, you'll eventually reach a patch of grasslands that's surrounded by forest and intersected by a river with several ponds. These fields are Cyan's playground. She has 5 greenhouses set up and grows her plant dragons there.

The Library, Shadow Cavern and Aquarium (Western Mountain)
The Western mountain houses the library and records hall. Since the books need appropriate care, the caverns have been adjusted and hardly look like caves. One of those used to be Donriven's workplace. After the little mishap with the shadowdragons, the workplace is currently abandoned and well-secured.
At the very back of the mountain, you'll find the aquaria. There the mountain ends quite abruptly to form the northern cliffed edge of the isle. The Dragonder are quite happy there, close enough to the dragons to live, but far away enough not to be a bother.

Eastern Mountain and Festival Sands
The Eastern mountain houses dragons and staff. The largest bottom cave is an event hall, it's also here that the festival clutches are housed since they usually attract quite a crowd at hatchings.

Surrounding forests
There are several forests surrounding the mountains and plains. At the bottom of the slopes the forests are abundant with lots of trees, bushes and wildlife. Going up the slopes you see more northern-styled trees like pines and birches and the ground becomes bare.

History
Lantessama was formed only some time ago when the previous Isle, located on the planet Syldan, got full. With only a skeleton crew the new Laedrysses, Trix, Cyan, Donriven and Lucas ventured to another "non-place outside time". A whole planet this time. Syl-Neriss, Glittering Diamond. The sole purpose of the Isle is to guard it against "Black Spirits". These cruel creatures of the night live to do only 2 things. Breeding and destroying planets. Syl-Neriss had only recently shifted outside time and was therefore unharmed. Thrilled as everyone was to find such a beautiful planet, the people of Syldan knew they had to act quick. Syldan was at max capacity and new room had to be created fast to support the growing number of dragonpairs.
As there was found no evidence of human life on Syl-Neriss, some settlers joined the new Laedrysses and followed them to a new uncertain fate. So far the settlers have been able to ward of the threat of the Black Spirits. In fact, there hardly have been any skirmishes of note. The only real threat came from the Isle's own shadow dragons that caused a slight timeshift of just over a decade.
Still, the Isle seems to be affected, possibly by the timeshift, possibly by the presence of the gem dragons or maybe even by the magic of the Wicena dragons on it's sister Isle across the continent. Maybe it's just the dragons adapting to their new environment. Who's to say?
