Jerigo

STATS
Name: Jerigo

Jerigo likes to dress to impress but his fashion sense is geared toward bright, clashing colours and dated fashion statements.

STORY
Jerigo flew out in a justified rage. This was the final straw! The last drop needed to flood the bucket! There was no going back. Not that Jerigo could after the onslaught of sharp words and slicing critique he'd finally let loose on the university board. They'd had it coming of course, but it was always better to keep your thoughts on your superiors private... they could fire you after all. And fired he now undoubtedly was.
The red-haired, pompadoured young prodigy slowed down, his ire cooled at the reality of his situation. There was little else he could do but research, even teaching wasn't the thing he did best. In the ideal world, Jerigo would be left to report his findings in a book and be paid to write it. But the real world wasn't so nice. With employment lost, where was he to go now?
As luck would have it, Fate had plans for Jerigo. Amalfi, who was back at the Academia de Magica for some paperwork ran right into the flashily dressed scholar. The two lost their balance, went down in a flurry of papers and pens and looked a bit dazed before they realised what had happened.
"Excuse me." Jerigo said, his gentlemanly manners returning first.
"I'm quite sure I ran into you though." Amalfi returned, "I tend to rush without looking."
Jerigo offered his hand and started picking up the paper's she'd dropped. He couldn't help but notice the schematics and drawings of some peculiar acquatic being.
"What are you researching?" he asked, his interest peaked.
"Nekrats mostly." Amalfi admitted, "and their interactions with other sea dragons."
Jerigo felt the cogs in his mind begin to turn. The subjects that could not keep his attention were few. There were too many questions he wanted to ask this young woman but too many wanted to be formulated making him stutter despite his usual eloquent speech.
Jerigo took a breath and then said: "Can I come?"
Amalfi blinked at the unexpected request but she had been needing some help at Dawn Cove now that her colleague Christo was offworld on Lantessama while his nekrat tended to her clutch. In fact, a devious idea entered her mind and she replied:
"I'd like to send you to my coworker. He can probably tell you more about the nekrats since he has bonded one. He can bring you up to speed and then you can join him when he returns home to continue his studies."
"Home is...?"
"Dawn Cove on Gremyne. Don't worry, it might be small but it has a lot of freedom. Head for Lantessama and ask for Christo and you'll find everything you need!"
And then Amalfi rushed away before the scholar could come to his senses. Jerigo was left baffled but feeling slightly better as he now at least had a plan to go with. He changed course to ask for directions to Lantessama or Dawn Cove or wherever these nekrats might reside.

HATCHING
Proud Melbasue absolutely beamed when she surfaced and declared:
"My eggs are hatching"
Her bond, Christo, nervously wrung his hands for a few seconds before common sense prevailed and he raced off to alert the officials.
"Doesn't he know we can isntantly relay the information?" Storm Ulafar asked.
The storm nekrat was a dark shadow in the water but as the sire of the clutch he'd never been far away.
"It's good that he has something to do." Melbasue surmised.
The pebble nekrat returned to tending to her little ones as they struggled to break free from their eggs. Ulafar meanwhile alerted the nekrats and other sea dragons in the vicinity to come join the happy event. The dragons overhead picked up the messages but waited until they got word from their own leaders to strike down on the beach.
Only two candidates had been brought to Lantessama so the concensus was that some of the eggs might bond to the dragons or locals. So when the first nekrat kitten hatched, the cheers from the crowd and the slapping of water was very loud. The red Fountain female preened and gave a little show with her fins as she sped through the water and jumped in the air. She headed toward the only one dressed in such a way that he could match her.
"Jerigo! Let's go teach some kids!" she called out.
"I could start with you, Siluan." the pompous teacher retorted.

ADULT
As previously agreed upon, Jerigo followed Christo and Tohiji, their nekrats and the three little ones back to Gremyne and Dawn Cove. He was not used to the quietness of the little town but the people were friendly and at least they prospered because business was bustling. Maybe taking a step back was the right thing to do.
Time passed and both Jerigo and Siluan settled in. Luckily Jerigo found that Christo favoured teaching and the two of them had soon found a comfortable way of working together. He spent most of his days in the water, listening to the nekrats and being baffled by what they knew even when they shouldn't. His nights were spent in his hut, writing and usually, falling asleep in front of his desk until Siluan woke him up to head to bed.
"Who's even supposed to be the one taking care of whom?" she asked.
"I did when you were a kitten, you're plenty able to take care of yourself." Jerigo retorted.
"I'm surprised you mananged. Or maybe I shouldn't be surprised, I needed to grow up fast after all. You'll be sorry you left me to myself though. I might just swim away to have fun."
"You'd miss me." Jerigo said, quite convinced.
"Oh, I would, but I'll still go if you keep up your way of life. Live a little! And by that I mean live a little with me. Let's go out! Have some fun!"
"Oh alright."
