AFGUNST
_____________________________________________________________

Afgunst was excited. She was going out walking. She was wearing a brand new summer dress and had a picnic basket for lunch. No-one was going with her. She'd have all the time to relax near the lake, catch some rays of sun and look at the clouds. Perfect.
She was 21 now and considered a full adult. There was only one downfall to that. her parents would want her to marry soon. None of her suitors could live up to her high standards, neither of them had gotten more than a kiss from her. She didn't want to marry a man less handsome, less smart and less witty than her. Ok, she wanted a man who had a bigger sense of humour than her because that was the only thing she lacked. But her true love would have to be perfect.
Afgunst cleared her mind. She'd have none of those thoughts today. Today she would relax. She walked out and felt foolish enough to skip down the road. Not far from the castle was a small forest with a pond in the middle. The pond was nowhere near the size of the lake, but it was secluded. Afgunst installed herself there and closed her eyes. She dozed for a while until the sun was close to it's zenith.
Afgunst opened her eyes and started counting the clouds. Suddenly a spark caught her eye. A very golden spark. A spark below the clouds? The wrong side of the sun? A small yellow bubble raced down towards her. When it came closer she could see a small fish-like creature whirling within.

"Hey there little animal." Afgunst said.
The little yellow-blue-green creature chirped. A high piercing sound that made Afgunst's bones ache.
"Ow!" she yelled.
Suddenly the creature flew away. Scared apparently.
"Wait! I didn't mean it!" she yelled.
From behind a tree, the soft yellow bubble appeared again. The creature inside caught the sunlight and broke the rays of light, making the world seem a lot more yellow in it's vicinity.
"You're the prettiest thing I've ever seen in reality." Afgunst said.
The yellow fish made a few loops inside its bubble.
"Where did you come from?"
The creature flew up, waited and suddenly started flying in circles a lot. Afgunst looked up. A big green dragon, followed by some other bubbles flew overhead. Afgunst's breath got stuck in her throat. She had seen dragons before, but only in books. Fairy tales. The dragon she saw wasn't as pretty as the dragon in the books. Her skin was just plain green all over. But the grace and strength were there. And the beauty. Beauty that would last forever...
The little fish happily swirled in it's bubble. She couldn't keep calling it that. Nor was Afgunst happy with the 'it'. The creature looked male. It was bold enough to be a male in any case.
"Sunspark." she said, "that's the perfect name for you, because that was what I thought you were."
Sunspark chirruped his approval. Now that the formalities were over, Sunspark hastily tried to get her somewhere. He didn't seem happy anymore at all. Sometimes he even tried flying away, but he always came back.
"I know! I'll show you the dragons I've seen in the books. They're prettier than the one you came with." Afgunst said and ran up the stairs to her room. She hadn't opened the story book in years and she had a hard time finding it now. But at last she did. Shoved in one of her book cases, covered in dust. When she opened it, it automatically fell to the page she needed.
"Look Sunspark! Thos are dragons."
The little fish made a question sound, hovered closer and looked at the page.
"That are the kind of dragons that are to die for." she told him.
Suddenly he disappeared.
"Sunspark?" she called.
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted...But then a loud shriek came from the inner courtyard. Sunspark flew in, happily dangling in the sky. When she wasn't fast enough to follow him, his tiny flippers reached out his bubble and started pulling her hair.
"Ow! I'm coming, I'm coming!" she yelled and went out.
In the courtyard was standing a deep blue dragon. Sunspark flew around it and grabbed hold on the hair of a person she had never seen before. The man screamed and looked for help in his dragon.
"Aavaanaath, help me!"
But the dragon only laughed, throwing his head to the sky and breathing loudly.
"You say it will stop if I search it's owner?"
The dragon nodded. The man looked at Afgunst.
"Are you the owner of this... erm creature?"
"Yes, Sunspark is mine, I only got him today."
"Ok, Aavaanaath says it wants you to impress a dragon from the rainbow clutch at Darkling Dawn, the Weyr I'm searching for."
"Do the dragons look like this?" she asked, holding out the book.
"The colours a bit, but they are bigger with longer legs." the man, now relieved of Sunspark said.
"I'll go then." she said, stroking Sunspark's bubble.
Suddenly three smaller dragons appeared mid sky. Sunspark shrieked and hid behind her hair.
"What are those?"
"Firelizards."
"Well, get them away, Sunspark doesn't like them."
"They follow me wherever I go."
"Well Sunspark follows me!" Afgunst yelled.
"Well, tell him to stay put on your shoulders. My firelizards never come that close when flying between."
"ok."
